Ethocred materials

The EthoCRED evaluation method comprises 14 relevance criteria and 29 reliability criteria with which to evaluate behavioural ecotoxicity studies. We also provide reporting recommendations for researchers, comprising 72 specific aspects to consider when reporting behavioural ecotoxicity studies.

Four key documents are used to implement the EthoCRED evaluation method:

  • The research article: This paper introduces the EthoCRED method and lists all relevance and reliability criteria, with each criterion being accompanied by extensive guidance to support decision making. The article also lists the EthoCRED reporting recommendations for researchers.

  • The EthoCRED Manual (i.e. Supporting Information file #2 for the above article): This document not only lists all of the EthoCRED relevance and reliability criteria but also provides guidance material for all criteria, which are presented alongside the original criteria from the Criteria for Reporting and Evaluating Ecotoxicity Data (CRED) project.

  • EthoCRED relevance and reliability criteria Excel file (i.e. Supporting Information file #3 for the above article): Excel file to facilitate the use of the EthoCRED evaluation method by risk assessors. Specifically, this Excel file allows evaluators to straightforwardly document their choices and the rationale behind them, and to potentially highlight uncertainties.

  • EthoCRED reporting recommendations Excel file (i.e. Supporting Information file #4 for the above article): Excel file to facilitate the use of the EthoCRED reporting recommendations by authors. Specifically, this Excel file allows researchers to systematically confirm inclusion of important details about their study that will strengthen their article.
